Tesla is set to redesign its vehicle door handles by integrating electronic and manual release mechanisms into a single button. This initiative aims to enhance occupant safety during emergencies by simplifying the door-opening process. The decision follows a safety probe initiated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concerning reports of individuals being trapped inside Tesla vehicles due to inoperative door handles. The investigation encompasses approximately 174,290 Model Y SUVs from the 2021 model year. Additionally, Tesla is monitoring potential regulatory changes in China, where authorities are considering a ban on fully concealed door handles. Tesla's design chief, Franz von Holzhausen, stated, "We’ll have a really good solution for that."
