Apple releases iOS 27.2 with Siri AI memory, new language support and iPhone Duo Pencil compatibility

Summary

Apple's iOS 27.2 update adds Siri AI conversation memory, expands its language roster, introduces a Messages Suggestions feature and enables Apple Pencil use on the iPhone Duo, while also delivering assorted bug fixes.

Apple rolled out iOS 27.2 on Monday, bringing a suite of enhancements to its operating system. On iPhone 15 Pro models and newer, Siri AI can now retain prior conversations, allowing users to ask the assistant to recall earlier suggestions. The assistant also accesses photo attachments in Messages, Calendar event attendees and voicemails, and draws more detailed results from Safari history and the Reading List.

Additional Siri AI upgrades include the ability to select and copy specific portions of its responses, as well as an Excluded Apps list that lets users limit which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can interact with. The update expands Siri AI’s language support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

"Apple is working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward," the company said, noting that the beta-stage Siri AI remains unavailable in the European Union due to local regulations.

iOS 27.2 also introduces a Suggestions feature in Messages that proposes actions based on conversation context, such as adding a dinner invitation to the Calendar. In Photos, Shared Albums now allow caption and comment edits and provide reminders before an album expires. Images generated with Apple’s Image Playground will carry an invisible Synth ID watermark, a measure aligned with recent industry efforts to label AI-generated media.

Other refinements include a new black-and-white logo for Apple Music, Simple Profiles in Apple TV, support for third-party sign-language interpreters on FaceTime, separate sections for new episodes and continue-playing content in Podcasts, and updated friend suggestions in the Games app. The update adds Apple Pencil (USB-C) support for the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone, though the stylus is the only one compatible with the device’s display.

The release also addresses bugs across Health, Shortcuts, app tracking and other components. iOS 27.2 can be installed on iPhone 11 or newer and iPhone SE 2 or newer via Settings > General > Software Update.
