Three police officers were killed and two others critically wounded while serving a warrant in North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials.
The incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. in the area of Haar and Emig roads. Four of the officers were from the Northern York Regional Police Department, and the fifth was a York County sheriff's deputy. The two injured officers are in critical but stable condition at WellSpan York Hospital, which has implemented enhanced security protocols.
Governor Josh Shapiro addressed the situation, stating,
"This kind of violence isn't okay. We need to do better as a society. We need to help the people that think that picking up a gun, picking up a weapon, is the answer to resolving disputes."
The Spring Grove Area School District briefly implemented a shelter-in-place order for all schools as a precaution, which was lifted by 4:10 p.m. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
