The City of Toronto said voting will stay open up to 20 minutes past the 8 p.m. deadline at nearly a dozen locations after earlier disruptions, while Caledon extended its polling hours to 10 p.m. to give voters more time.
The City of Toronto said that because of disruptions earlier on election day, voting will stay open beyond the standard 8 p.m. closing time at almost a dozen polling sites, underscoring how fragile access can become when the process is interrupted. The extensions range from five to twenty minutes, with the latest closing time set for 8:20 p.m. at the Chartwell Scarlett Heights Retirement Residence in Ward 2 and Country Club Towers A in Ward 5. Other locations will close between 8:05 p.m. and 8:18 p.m., including Driftwood Public School (8:08 p.m.), The Allenway (8:10 p.m.), Wigwamen Terrace (8:05 p.m.), Casa 2 (8:08 p.m.), St. Joseph’s College (8:08 p.m.), Aura at College Park (8:15 p.m.), The Selby (8:17 p.m.) and Valley Park Middle School (8:18 p.m.).
In the neighboring town of Caledon, officials posted on X that all polling locations will remain open until 10 p.m., offering a welcome buffer of extra time for voters to cast their ballots after the day’s disruptions.
