Users Report Creases and Cracks on New $2,000 iPhone Duo Foldable Screen

Resumen

Early owners of Apple's iPhone Duo are encountering visible creases and occasional cracks along the hinge, prompting replacement requests and technical analysis of the device's folding mechanism.

Apple's $2,000 iPhone Duo, released two days ago, is already generating reports of visible creases and, in some cases, cracks along the central hinge of its folding display. Social-media posts and Reddit comments describe users hearing a snap and seeing the screen break after only a few openings.

One Reddit user said, "Had my iPhone Duo for about six hours and had probably opened it fewer than 20 times… I heard an audible crack, and the screen broke right along the hinge." Another posted a photo showing a pronounced gully down the center of the screen.

Technical analysis by iFixit suggests that a central support bar or the curved rails guiding the hinge may not retract properly, potentially applying excess pressure to the display and creating a bright white line of stuck pixels that extends from the center to the edge.

Apple has not commented on the crease issue, but 9to5Mac reports that most customers experiencing the white-line glitch have received device replacements. It remains unclear whether Apple will replace units showing the central crease.

The iPhone Duo follows a lineage of foldable phones, such as Samsung's Galaxy Fold, which also develop a crease after extensive use. Independent testers have subjected the Duo to thousands of folds, noting the crease becomes more apparent over time, though overall functionality appears unchanged.
