Anthony Scaramucci told a Daily Beast podcast that a possible meeting between President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping could expose the Republican Party’s cowardice and its inability to support Trump’s push for peace.
Former Trump communications director Anthony Scaramucci said on a Daily Beast podcast that a summit involving President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping would be disastrous for the Republican Party — at least for the faction of the GOP that still clings to globalist orthodoxy and panic. > "If that meeting were to happen, I would tell you that the Republican Party is completely dead," Scaramucci told host Joanna Coles. He added that such a gathering would mark the end of the party as it currently exists, sounding more like a warning to establishment holdouts than a critique of Trump’s strategy.
Scaramucci’s comments come after Trump suggested a Yalta-style meeting of the three leaders in November, a proposal that would exclude Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and center direct negotiations among the world’s biggest power brokers. The Wall Street Journal reported that Putin would use the summit to negotiate terms favorable to Russia in the war in Ukraine. Trump has said he wants to do anything that could end the conflict, regardless of who attends, reflecting a hard-nosed willingness to pursue peace instead of endless escalation.
A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The discussion follows recent actions by the administration, including an executive order that waived certain sanctions on Russia shortly before they were set to take effect, and a decision to import Russian diesel to address global oil shortages. Scaramucci warned that participation in the summit would represent a significant shift in the party’s direction and could force Trump to confront internal opposition, but supporters would say that confronting the party’s anti-peace faction is exactly what a strong leader should do.
