Apple to Unveil New 14- and 16-Inch MacBook Pro Models with OLED Touchscreens

Summary

Apple is set to announce updated MacBook Pro laptops featuring OLED touch displays and a Dynamic Island design, with pricing expected to be higher than current models.

Apple is scheduled to announce new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops on Wednesday, October 28, during a "Pro and tell" event in Los Angeles. The devices are reported to retain the overall look of the current models but will be lighter and replace the notch with a Dynamic Island. They are expected to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors introduced earlier this year and will run the upcoming macOS Golden Gate, which includes a "dynamic interface" for touch input.

"The system will take previous interactions into account, presenting controls based on whether someone has been touching the display or using the trackpad," the report noted. "Touching a button can also bring up a menu around the user's finger, while the Dock and Menu Bar have been optimized for touch."

Apple plans to position touch as an optional input method alongside the keyboard and trackpad. The new OLED models are anticipated to carry a price premium of up to $500 over the current mini-LED versions, which start at $2,499 for the 14-inch and $2,999 for the 16-inch. Existing mini-LED MacBook Pro models will remain available for the time being but are slated for eventual discontinuation.
