Summary

The White House has pushed 13 additional petitions to the Supreme Court, targeting issues including transgender military service, asylum policy, and student visas, according to a report.

The administration of President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to take up 13 new cases, a sharp docket increase noted by The Hill’s Zach Schonfeld. The filings sweep across a wide range of disputes, including challenges to the asylum ban, policies affecting transgender service members, foreign-student visa rules, university grant cuts, dismissals of U.S. attorneys, nationwide injunctions, immigration bond hearings, horseracing regulations, an Idaho land exchange, and claims for attorneys’ fees and damages against government officials.

"The Supreme Court is already confronting President Trump’s agenda this term, but a lot more is still coming," Schonfeld wrote.

The Court, which chooses its own cases, continues to hear matters from the current term, and decisions could come as soon as next year. Justice Elena Kagan has previously warned that the Court’s rulings may produce unintended consequences for the political system, while Justice Clarence Thomas has defended the Court’s conservative path as a reaction to historical changes.

The Supreme Court’s makeup includes six justices identified with its conservative bloc and three with the liberal bloc, a balance that has shaped recent rulings on issues ranging from executive power to immigration and transgender rights.
