Apple releases iOS 27.1 exclusively for iPhone Duo as iOS 27.2 prepares for broader rollout
Apple has launched iOS 27.1 only for the newly introduced iPhone Duo, while the upcoming iOS 27.2 will be made available to all other iPhone models next week.
Apple rolled out iOS 27.1 as an over-the-air update that appears solely on the iPhone Duo, the latest model unveiled last month. Users of other iPhone models will continue to see iOS 27.0.1 as the most recent version in Settings and are expected to receive iOS 27.2, currently in beta, in the coming week.
The iOS 27.2 update is slated to bring a range of new features, including suggested actions in Messages, a refreshed Apple Music icon and design, user profiles for Apple TV, an overhauled Up Next queue in Apple Podcasts, Dual Capture for group FaceTime calls, and expanded language support for Siri AI.
Apple has not provided detailed reasoning for the Duo-only release, but analysts suggest the approach allows the company to keep certain hardware-specific features and design elements hidden until the Duo’s official launch, and may simplify engineering efforts by isolating the update from the broader device lineup.
