Apple Store demo offers hands-on look at new iPhone Duo foldable

Summary

Customers can test the iPhone Duo’s displays, cameras and typing experience at Apple Stores before the device becomes available for purchase in January.

Apple Store locations will let shoppers handle the iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable phone, starting Friday. The device, which will be released for sale in January, features an outer 12-megapixel front camera, an inner dual-camera system and two displays with different aspect ratios.

Visitors are encouraged to open and close the phone to view the inner screen’s matte finish and minimal crease, then compare video playback on both the outer “passport-size” screen and the larger inner display. The differing aspect ratios may cause letterboxing or cropping, a characteristic shared with other foldables such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The demo also includes checking how frequently used apps appear in each orientation and testing multitasking with two apps side by side. Shoppers can evaluate the camera setup by taking photos with the outer front camera, the inner rear cameras and the hidden front-facing camera beneath the inner screen.

Typing tests on both displays are recommended, as the front screen’s unusual aspect ratio may feel cramped for some users, while the inner screen offers options for split keyboards or larger keys in portrait and landscape modes. Apple staff advise deleting any test images after the session.
