Prince William Unlikely to Reconcile with Prince Harry, Sources Say

Summary

Sources close to Prince William say he has no intention of engaging with Prince Harry, despite the younger brother's recent remarks about wanting to mend family ties.

Prince William is reported to have no plans to engage with his brother Prince Harry, according to sources close to the Prince of Wales. The comment comes as Prince Harry told GQ that his recent move back to the United Kingdom with wife Meghan Markle and their children was partly motivated by a desire to be closer to his family and to "work out" the issues behind their long-standing rift.

Sources close to William said he remains deeply hurt by statements made publicly by Prince Harry and expressed that he sees no scenario in which the brothers could reconcile. The Prince of Wales has been occupied with royal duties, including a state visit by the Sultan of Oman and a trip to Wales to mark the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan tragedy.

Prince Harry, who stepped back from his royal duties in 2020, said in the GQ interview that he hopes the relationship can improve, acknowledging that "scars stick around forever" and that letting go of past grievances is difficult. He also described his feelings of grief over the strained relationships with his father and brother as "massively relatable".

A spokesperson for the Sussexes clarified that the interview’s publication timing was decided by GQ and that Harry’s comments were not intended as a swipe at his brother or any other family member, stating they were made in a general context.

The brothers have been estranged since Prince Harry relocated to California after stepping down as a working royal, a split that was further inflamed by allegations in Harry’s memoir "Spare" about a physical altercation involving William.
