Ilhan Omar releases campaign video amid DHS raid and Trump comments

Résumé

Rep. Ilhan Omar posted a fundraising video after a Homeland Security Investigations raid on her Washington, D.C., home, while President Donald Trump warned she could face jail if allegations are proven.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., posted a campaign video to her official social media accounts on Tuesday, asking supporters for donations following a Homeland Security Investigations raid on her Washington, D.C., residence last week. In the selfie-style clip, Omar thanked donors for contributions ranging from $5 to $20 and urged continued financial support, noting that the upcoming midterm election would be "very expensive and challenging."

The raid is part of a federal inquiry into possible immigration fraud, with investigators examining whether Omar or her father provided false information on paperwork used to obtain her citizenship. Border security official Tom Homan said that if the allegations are substantiated, Omar could be denaturalized.

Omar did not address the investigation directly in the video but criticized President Donald Trump, saying the money raised helps "fight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many people right before the midterm elections." She added, "We know that they're running scared. We're not going to be intimidated. We're not going to be silenced. We're not going to be scared."

In a separate statement posted to X after the raid, Omar described the search as "an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies." She claimed the raid was politically motivated and asserted she had done nothing wrong.

President Trump later warned from the Oval Office that Omar could face jail if the allegations are true, adding that she might also be deported. He described her as "a very dishonest person" who "hates our country."

Omar indicated she will resume campaigning ahead of the midterms, including a scheduled appearance in Minneapolis with streamer Hasan Piker. Her husband, Tim Mynett, and her daughters have been seen at the home since the raid, and her sister, Sahra Noor, is cooperating with investigators.
