Apple launches $1,999 iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone
Apple's new iPhone Duo, priced from $1,999, combines a 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner screen and a titanium frame, aiming to address the shortcomings of earlier Android foldables.
Apple unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, with a starting price of $1,999 that rises to $3,199 for the top storage option. The device folds into a compact shape slightly smaller than a passport, while the opened inner screen measures 7.6 inches. Weighing 254 g, the Duo is heavier than most flagship phones, a result of its Grade 5 titanium frame, dual Ceramic Shield glass, and a multi-angle hinge that opens flat at 180 degrees.
"The iPhone Duo’s inner display looks like printed paper and reduces the visibility of the crease," the reviewer noted, highlighting the nano-texture finish that mitigates reflections.
Apple equips the Duo with the same A20 Pro processor, 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine found in the iPhone 18 Pro series, and a vapor-chamber cooling system that helps maintain performance under load. Benchmark scores are comparable to the iPhone 18 Pro and substantially higher than those of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The device runs iOS 27, which has been adapted for the two displays. Multitasking is limited to a split-view layout in landscape orientation, with apps snapping side-by-side and a simple gesture to bind or unbind them. The operating system does not support three-app windows or resizable panes, but the reviewer found the experience smooth and intuitive.
Camera hardware includes a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 12-megapixel front camera. An under-display 4-megapixel camera is used mainly for video calls and is not intended for high-quality selfies. The reviewer described the photo quality as “slightly above” that of recent non-Pro iPhones, noting weaker low-light performance compared with the iPhone 18 Pro line.
Apple offers two official accessories: a $79 two-piece case that protects the back and outer screen, and a $129 TechWoven folio with a built-in kickstand. Both accessories retain magnetic compatibility with MagSafe chargers and accessories.
Battery capacity is 4,883 mAh, delivering roughly 5.5 to 7.5 hours of screen-on time depending on usage. In mixed-use testing the device stayed above 20 % for most of an 8- to 10-hour day, even when the inner screen was used extensively.
The reviewer concluded that the iPhone Duo represents a significant step for Apple in the foldable market, offering premium materials and a refined hinge, while acknowledging trade-offs such as weight, limited multitasking options and a modest under-display camera.
