Vice President JD Vance hosted 'The Charlie Kirk Show' to honor the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, emphasizing the need for national unity and condemning political violence.
Vice President JD Vance hosted 'The Charlie Kirk Show' on Monday, paying tribute to the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was recently assassinated at Utah Valley University. Broadcasting from his ceremonial office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Vance expressed his deep desire for national unity in the wake of his friend's death.
'I'm desperate for our country to be united in condemnation of the actions and the ideas that killed my friend,' Vance stated during the program. He emphasized that unity is achievable only with those who acknowledge that political violence is unacceptable.
Vance recounted his close friendship with Kirk, highlighting Kirk's significant influence on his political career. He noted that Kirk was among the first people he consulted when considering a Senate run in 2021 and credited Kirk's support for his eventual selection as President Donald Trump's running mate.
The program featured appearances by several administration officials who knew Kirk personally, including White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. Miller vowed to use all available resources to identify and dismantle networks that promote political violence.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University. Authorities have arrested a suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is believed to have acted alone. The investigation into the motive is ongoing.
In his closing remarks, Vance urged listeners to confront those who celebrate Kirk's assassination, stating, 'When you see someone celebrating Charlie's murder, call them out. And hell, call their employer.' He emphasized the importance of shining the light of truth to honor his friend's legacy.
