Actress Christina Applegate Says Doctor Determined She Was Misdiagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis

Summary

Applegate disclosed on her podcast that her recent medical evaluation concluded she does not have multiple sclerosis, though she continues to experience related symptoms.

Actress Christina Applegate told listeners of her "MeSsy" podcast on Monday that a recent medical assessment indicated she was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The doctor’s conclusion leaves her "back at square one" as she seeks clarification about her condition.

Applegate, who publicly announced an MS diagnosis in 2021, said she still experiences the full range of symptoms associated with the disease, including needing a wheelchair to reach a doctor's office and being unable to walk from her car to the examination room.

She expressed uncertainty about the impact of the revised diagnosis on her advocacy work alongside co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also lives with MS. "It's very unnerving, and it's really confusing for me," Applegate said.

Medical experts note that diagnosing MS can be complex, often requiring the exclusion of other conditions and consultation with multiple specialists over an extended period. The actress has previously discussed the unpredictable nature of her symptoms, which have at times required the use of adult diapers and alternative mobility methods.

Applegate’s memoir, "You with the Sad Eyes," details how her health challenges have limited her daily activities, describing her life as having "shrunk to the size of my California king" bed.
