Trump campaigns in North Carolina amid midterm race dynamics

Ամփոփում

President Donald Trump toured North Carolina as Republicans and Democrats intensify efforts to secure Senate seats and other key races ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

President Donald Trump visited North Carolina as the Republican Party seeks to retain a Senate seat and boost its candidates in other competitive contests. The trip comes amid a broader push by the GOP to expand early voting and mobilize supporters across several states, including new in-person voting sites in Hawaii, Louisiana, Utah and Wisconsin.

Republican leaders highlighted the party’s financial advantage, noting that the Republican National Committee has transferred more than $50 million to its House and Senate campaign committees since August. The RNC reported $126 million cash on hand at the start of September, bolstered by fundraising led by President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

In parallel, Democratic candidates are also campaigning aggressively. Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico held a rally in Fort Worth while skipping a Bernie Sanders event in El Paso, and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed emphasized his personal faith in campaign messaging. Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers criticized El-Sayed’s policy positions at a town-hall event.

The midterm race environment is further shaped by proposals such as President Trump’s pledge to issue $5,000 payments to Americans if Republicans control Congress, a plan estimated to cost over $1 trillion and requiring congressional approval. The White House has not detailed the financing mechanism for the proposal.

Analysts warned that the GOP’s traditional working-class base could be pivotal, with Senate Republican Senator Bernie Moreno stating that losing this bloc would threaten the party’s viability. Meanwhile, the campaign narrative includes calls for changes such as renaming New Mexico to "New America," a suggestion made by President Trump on social media.

As Election Day approaches, both parties are focusing on voter turnout, with early voting expanding and campaign messages targeting economic concerns, inflation, and public safety issues across the nation.
