Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk
Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Authorities are investigating potential motives, including Robinson's recent political views.
Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. After a two-day manhunt, authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting.
Robinson, a third-year student in the electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College in St. George, Utah, was identified as the suspect. Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that Robinson had become "more political in recent years" and expressed opposition to Kirk's viewpoints.
Investigators recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle believed to be the weapon used in the shooting. Bullet casings found at the scene bore engravings, including phrases like "hey fascist! CATCH!" and references to the antifascist Italian folk song "Bella ciao."
Robinson's family, who are registered Republicans, reported that he had recently expressed disdain for Kirk. A family member recounted a dinner conversation where Robinson discussed his dislike for Kirk's viewpoints.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the motive behind the shooting. Robinson is currently being held without bail on suspicion of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and discharge of a weapon causing serious bodily harm.
