Actress Selma Blair Issues Statement After Arrest on Delta Flight

Summary

Selma Blair, charged with two counts of second-degree assault following an incident on a Delta flight, said a medical emergency caused her actions and that she did not intend to harm anyone.

Selma Blair was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport on October 12 after an altercation with crew members on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York. She was arraigned the following day and released on $20,000 bail. Through her representatives, the actress provided a statement to People, saying she experienced a medical emergency during the flight and had no intention of harming anyone.

According to court filings, Blair allegedly attacked two flight attendants, biting one, and attempted to open an aircraft door. After the plane landed, she is reported to have kicked a police officer and a nurse, who later obtained a temporary restraining order against her.

Blair’s attorney told the court that she was overworked, struck her head on a bulkhead, and that the combination of those factors with the altitude caused severe confusion and disorientation. The statement also noted that Blair’s multiple sclerosis and a related condition called pseudobulbar affect can affect how her medical episodes appear to others, and that she travels with a service dog that was taken by authorities.

"Selma Blair experienced a medical emergency on the flight. There was no attempt to open the door of the aircraft. Selma did not intend to harm anyone," the spokesperson said.

The representatives asked the public and the court to consider all the facts before forming judgments.
