Sister honors RJ Mitte at Texas memorial, urges support for those in crisis
At a memorial service in Brownsville, Texas, RJ Mitte's sister Lacianne Carriere remembered her brother and called on the community to seek help during difficult times.
Lacianne Carriere, RJ Mitte's younger sister, spoke emotionally during a memorial service for the actor in his hometown of Brownsville, Texas. She said, "RJ Mitte was my older brother but I not only just lost a brother, I lost my father," and described how he assumed a father-like role after their mother, a single parent, was paralyzed in an early-life accident.
Carriere noted that her brother's influence extended to all aspects of her life, adding, "Every part of me is RJ. Every type of music I listen to, everything I watch, every game I play, our mannerisms, and I just really miss my brother."
She highlighted Mitte's connection to the local community, saying, "This was his community. He loved it here and he loved all of you and he loved this city."
Concluding her remarks, Carriere urged anyone struggling with mental health challenges to seek assistance, stating, "Try to accept the help, try. Try your hardest. And just reach out to someone."
A representative confirmed that the 34-year-old actor, best known for playing Walter White Jr. on the AMC series, died by suicide, and that an autopsy is pending. Colleagues from the series, including Anna Gunn, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, issued tributes.
Mitte's mother, Dyna Mitte, recounted discovering her son after he failed to answer a morning call, and expressed regret that she had not intervened more aggressively in his mental-health care.
