Selma Blair's Representative Clarifies Medical Emergency After Delta Flight Incident

Summary

Selma Blair's spokesperson said the actress suffered a medical emergency on a Delta flight, denied intent to harm anyone, and highlighted her ongoing health conditions and advocacy work.

Selma Blair's spokesperson issued a statement on Friday addressing the actress's arrest and the incident on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York on Oct. 11. The representative said Blair experienced a medical emergency during the flight, which led to the alleged conduct, and emphasized that she did not intend to harm anyone or attempt to open the aircraft door.

"Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition," the spokesperson told Variety.

The statement also refuted claims that Blair does not have multiple sclerosis, noting that her diagnosis has been public since 2018 and that she also lives with pseudobulbar affect, a neurological condition linked to her MS. According to the spokesperson, these conditions can affect how a medical episode appears to observers, and Blair travels with a service dog that was taken from her by authorities.

Blair, 54, was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport after allegedly punching a flight attendant, biting another, and later confronting a police officer and a nurse. She was charged with second-degree assault in Queens Criminal Court, posted $20,000 bail, and was released later that evening. The FBI opened an investigation, as is standard for assaults on aircraft. Delta Air Lines said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for unruly or unlawful behavior and that the flight landed ahead of schedule with no operational impact.

The spokesperson highlighted Blair's recent professional activity, including work on multiple film and television projects in 2026, as well as her skincare, clothing, and eyewear lines. She also noted Blair's advocacy for disability rights, the MS community, and the Jewish community amid rising antisemitism. The statement urged the public and the courts to consider the full context before forming judgments.
