Billy Evans Explains Purpose Behind Documentary Featuring Elizabeth Holmes
Billy Evans said the film "You Can See Everything" was intended to let viewers form their own opinions about Elizabeth Holmes, while acknowledging the trailer’s unsettling tone.
Partner of former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, Billy Evans, appeared on the "All-In" podcast as the documentary "You Can See Everything" began its theatrical run. Evans said the film was meant to show Holmes in everyday settings so audiences could assess her character without re-litigating her case, which she cannot discuss publicly while serving an 11-year sentence.
"The whole idea was here she is, see her and make up your mind. It’s not to re-litigate the case," Evans said.
He added that people who initially doubted Holmes often changed their views after meeting her in natural environments, such as hiking or helping friends, and that the documentary aims to scale that experience.
Despite the stated intent, the trailer released by A24 has drawn criticism for Holmes’s demeanor and the music’s tone, which some viewers interpret as hostile. Evans admitted he had not yet seen the full film and described the trailer as possibly “the dumbest thing” he had done, noting that Holmes appears “insane” in the clip.
"I haven’t seen it. I might think this is the dumbest thing I have ever done," Evans said, adding that the trailer’s music seems to have an anti-Holmes bent.
Evans acknowledged the emotional intensity of the situation but said the decision to proceed with the documentary was ultimately theirs. Holmes and Evans met in 2017, have two children, and continue to navigate public scrutiny.
