Family of Six Flags Over Georgia rider seeks answers after fatal Goliath coaster incident
Investigators say Hassan Kariem was ejected from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday, prompting his family to call for a thorough investigation.
Hassan Kariem died after being ejected from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday, according to investigators. The incident occurred while Kariem, his wife, daughter and niece were riding the attraction to celebrate the daughter’s 13th birthday.
"He loved everything about Atlanta. He loved kids. He loved technology," said Joshua Nelson, Kariem’s brother-in-law, describing the deceased as a devoted father and husband.
"His last words were to my daughter, and they were, 'This is my favorite ride. I'm so excited to be here,'" Nelson added.
Nelson recounted his niece’s description of the accident: the ride’s latch reportedly came undone after several cycles, causing Kariem to fall from the coaster. The Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire noted that the Goliath coaster was last inspected in March and showed no safety concerns at that time.
The family said they are awaiting the investigation’s results before holding a formal memorial for Kariem.
