NFL to remove running back Josh Jacobs from exempt list pending video review
The league plans to take Jacobs off the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Monday, pending the outcome of its investigation into video evidence of an alleged domestic incident.
The National Football League said it will remove running back Josh Jacobs from the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Monday, though his eventual suspension will depend on the league’s review of video footage from the incident involving his ex-girlfriend. The league has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Hobart/Lawrence police department to obtain the video, which a judge previously denied the victim’s request to seal.
"If they get to the point where it’s five games, six games, maybe eight games, that might be when you’re looking at a potential return for Josh Jacobs," said league source Rapoport.
Jacobs, who was placed on the exempt list on Aug. 30 after being arrested on multiple charges, remains ineligible to practice or play while the investigation continues. The league indicated that the time he has already spent on the list will count toward any future suspension.
The victim’s motion argues that releasing the tape would threaten her privacy and emotional well-being, a claim the league must weigh against its need for evidence. The NFL has not set a timeline for a disciplinary decision, noting that it will likely wait until the video is reviewed before determining the length of any suspension, which is expected to fall in the four-to-six-game range.
In Jacobs’ absence, backup running back MarShawn Lloyd is slated to handle the bulk of the carries for Green Bay through the remainder of the season.
