Teen niece rode Goliath with uncle who died after falling from Six Flags coaster

A family member said his 13-year-old niece was sitting next to him on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia when the accident occurred. The girl’s father, Joshua Nelson, told Channel 2 reporter Ashlyn Webb that the two were celebrating the girl’s birthday and that the uncle had expressed excitement about the ride. Nelson recounted that his daughter said her uncle fainted and that his safety latch appeared to come loose, causing him to fall from the coaster. The niece called her father in tears after the incident. Nelson said his brother-in-law later died from the injuries. He recalled that the uncle had asked his niece to hold his sunglasses before the ride and hopes that was the last thing the man remembered. Nelson expressed a desire for answers and accountability to prevent similar tragedies. The niece was cleared by paramedics at the scene.
