Jon Gosselin defends son Collin's memoir and warns Kate Gosselin against mental-health accusations

Summary

Jon Gosselin said he is proud of his son Collin's new memoir alleging abuse and warned his ex-wife Kate Gosselin that false claims about Collin's mental health could lead to legal action.

Jon Gosselin said he is proud of his son Collin's memoir, "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood," which details alleged abuse by his mother, Kate Gosselin. In a statement to Us Weekly, Jon said the book aims to help other victims of abuse and warned that any continued labeling of Collin as "mentally ill" would be met with accountability, noting that Collin has been evaluated by multiple independent psychiatrists.

Collin's memoir, released on Tuesday, alleges that his mother placed him in a mental institution in 2016 after a period of confinement in a small holding cell, and that she forced the family to behave in specific ways for the reality show "Jon and Kate Plus 8." He also describes punitive measures for minor infractions during his childhood.

Kate Gosselin responded on TikTok, calling the claims "terrible lies" and suggesting that defamation in a memoir should be illegal. She also liked a comment suggesting Collin might regret his actions and that he was influenced by dysfunctional individuals.

Collin told Page Six he is considering legal action against his mother, including the possibility of filing a police report, saying he wants justice to encourage other children to confront abuse.

"First and foremost, I couldn’t be more proud of my son’s heartbreaking memoir and his mission to help other victims of abuse," Jon Gosselin said.

"If you continue to falsely label my son Collin as ‘mentally ill,’ you will be held accountable," he added.
