Jon Gosselin Defends Son After Memoir Allegations and Threatens Legal Action Over Mental Health Claims

Summary

Jon Gosselin praised his son Collin's new memoir and warned that false accusations of mental illness will be met with accountability.

Jon Gosselin expressed pride in his 22-year-old son Collin's recently released memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, and pledged support for the book's aim to assist abuse victims. "First and foremost, I couldn't be more proud of my son's heartbreaking memoir and his mission to help other victims of abuse," Gosselin told Us Weekly on October 15.

He also warned that anyone continuing to label Collin as "mentally ill" would be held accountable, citing evaluations by multiple independent psychiatrists that refute the claim. "Repeating false claims about his mental health is damaging to his reputation, his credibility and his future," he said, adding that the practice of using mental health accusations to discredit his son must end.

The remarks follow comments made by Collin's mother, Kate Gosselin, on TikTok on October 10, where she appeared to suggest her son suffered from mental illness. Kate has previously denied any abuse allegations, with her attorney stating in 2024 that she did not intentionally harm Collin and acted to protect herself and her family.

Earlier, in June 2026, Kate responded to a follower who suggested she sue Collin for defamation, noting that as a public figure she faced different legal constraints.

"I can't because I'm a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I definitely would!" – Kate Gosselin, TikTok comment, June 2026
