Dodgers Trail 3-0 in NLCS as Brewers Dominate
The Milwaukee Brewers lead the National League Championship Series 3-0 over the Los Angeles Dodgers, with analysts citing superior pitching, defense and hitting by the Brewers and underperformance by key Dodgers players.
Milwaukee is one win away from its first National League pennant after taking a 3-0 lead over Los Angeles in the NLCS. Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after Game 3 that his team does not need to change anything, emphasizing the Dodgers’ quality but noting that the Brewers know what they are up against.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the difficulty of a three-game deficit, saying the team must find a way to build momentum in an elimination game. He recalled his experience with a 0-3 comeback when he was with the 2004 Boston Red Sox.
The series has highlighted the Brewers’ advantage in several areas. Their starting pitching, bullpen, defense, baserunning and offensive production have all outperformed the Dodgers, according to game analysis. The Dodgers’ regular-season record (100-62) and run differential (+201) were slightly lower than Milwaukee’s (103-59, +214).
Individual performances have also drawn scrutiny. Dodgers infielder Max Muncy described the team’s play as subpar after the third game. First-base star Freddie Freeman has gone 1-for-11 in the series, while Shohei Ohtani, playing through injuries, has contributed minimally at the plate. The supporting cast has struggled, with most regular hitters posting low batting averages, leaving only Mookie Betts and Kyle Tucker with consistent production.
Roberts’ managerial decisions have been questioned, particularly the handling of pinch-hitter Josue De Paula and the timing of reliever Blake Snell in Game 3. Critics note that the Dodgers left Snell in too long, allowing the Brewers to rally and take the lead.
While a comeback from a 3-0 deficit is historically rare, the Dodgers remain in the tournament and will seek to avoid a decisive Game 4 on Thursday.
