Kate Gosselin reacts to support on social media after son Collin's memoir alleges abuse
Kate Gosselin thanked supporters on TikTok following the release of her son Collin Gosselin's memoir, which details alleged abuse and childhood trauma.
Kate Gosselin responded to supportive comments on TikTok after her son Collin Gosselin released a memoir titled "In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood." The book, issued on Tuesday, contains allegations of abuse and trauma involving Gosselin's mother.
In the comment section of a TikTok video about her pet dog, Gosselin thanked a user who wrote, "I know you already know this, but you have the support of so many. Most importantly your seven precious children... I just wanted to say you are doing a great job keeping your head up through all of this! We love you!♥️" Gosselin replied, "> Thank you so much. I know rational logical ppl or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what's going on here :)."
When another user urged her to "Stay strong," she responded, "> I am! 😘"
Collin Gosselin previously told ABC News that after his parents' 2009 divorce, he was placed in a locked basement room and later removed from the family home days before his 12th birthday, after which he was sent to an institution where he received medication and had limited family contact. He said he was released two years later following legal action by his father and moved in with his dad and sister Hannah.
The memoir states that in 2023, after his mother repeatedly claimed he suffered from mental and behavioral issues, an independent psychological evaluation found no diagnoses. Collin, now a college finance student, said he would like to reconnect with his six siblings, though he expects the relationship to be altered. He wrote to them, "No matter what's happened or what was said, no matter how things look from the outside, I love you, I always have and always will."
ABC News has not received comment from Kate Gosselin or TLC regarding the memoir or the interview.
