Summary

Hassan Kariem was ejected from the Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday, where he was celebrating his niece's birthday, and was found unresponsive beneath the ride.

A man identified as Hassan Kariem died after being ejected from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday afternoon. Police said the incident occurred just before 4 p.m., and that Kariem struck other riders before falling beneath the attraction, where he was found unresponsive and not breathing.

Kariem, an educator and IT manager who had worked for more than ten years with Atlanta Public Schools at Wesley International Academy, was at the park celebrating his niece's birthday, according to a family member. His niece was reportedly seated beside him when the ride malfunctioned.

"He was a good person. All the scholars that he taught loved him," said Atiya Kariem, a relative.

Six Flags Over Georgia plans to reopen on Friday while investigators continue to examine the cause of the fatal ejection. A family member posted on Instagram urging the public to stop sharing images of the incident, describing the circulation of such material as degrading and insensitive.
