President Trump Announces Planned Oil, Gas and Mineral Exploration in Greenland

Resumen

President Donald Trump said large-scale exploration for oil, gas and minerals will start in Greenland and highlighted security benefits of a recent U.S.-Denmark-Greenland agreement.

President Donald Trump announced that extensive exploration for oil, gas and minerals is set to begin in Greenland, describing the island as holding some of the world’s largest reserves of easily extractable oil. In a post on his Truth Social platform, he wrote that the amount of readily available oil in Greenland is greater than in most other locations worldwide, citing unnamed experts.

The statement follows a security agreement reached last month with Denmark and Greenland, which expands the U.S. military presence on the island, authorizes two new bases and a planned missile-defence system known as the “Golden Dome.” The pact reaffirms Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders’ right to self-determination while addressing a previous dispute over the possibility of a forced U.S. acquisition of Greenland.

"Any future attack on the United States will have to come across Greenland, where our defence will routinely knock down drones, missiles, or any other form of weapon not yet even conceived," Trump wrote.

"It gives us time, location, and sightline, like nowhere else in the world!"

No immediate response was reported from Greenlandic or Danish officials regarding the president’s comments.
