Summary

U.S. agents executed a search warrant at Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C., residence and have subpoenaed several family members as part of a criminal investigation into her immigration documentation.

Federal agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., on Monday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into her immigration paperwork, the Justice Department confirmed. Investigators have also issued subpoenas to Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, and other relatives while examining whether false statements were made on immigration forms, according to sources familiar with the probe.

The New York Times reported that the inquiry includes a review of the naturalization process of Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, to determine if any inaccuracies were provided on immigration applications. The scope of the investigation has not been fully disclosed, and a grand jury subpoena does not itself indicate wrongdoing.

Separately, the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library confirmed that in May 2019 Omar’s congressional staff requested a correction to the birth year listed in her biographical entries, changing it from 1981 to 1982. Library staff noted that the original date was based on reference sources without supporting documentation.

Omar has repeatedly denied any immigration misconduct. > "I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement," she wrote on X. > "For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced," she added.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced a separate review of Omar’s financial disclosures, citing significant changes in reported asset values for businesses linked to her husband, Tim Mynett. Omar’s office later amended the filings, stating that the original reports did not properly account for business liabilities. The Office of Congressional Conduct previously recommended that the House Ethics Committee dismiss related misconduct allegations, finding no substantial evidence of false reporting.

President Donald Trump issued a statement on X calling for answers regarding the investigation, and Vice President JD Vance said he had no prior knowledge of the search and would follow the facts if a case exists.

Requests for comment were sent to the Justice Department, Rep. Omar’s office, and the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library.
