49ers defeat Seahawks 32-29 as offensive line and rookie defenders perform well

Summary

San Francisco beat Seattle 32-29, highlighted by strong run blocking from the offensive line and notable contributions from several rookie defenders.

San Francisco defeated Seattle 32-29 on Sunday, improving its standing as a potential contender for the 2026 Super Bowl. The game featured seven turnovers, 13 penalties and limited passing efficiency for both teams, but the 49ers secured the win with two scoring drives in the final minutes and a decisive defensive stop.

The offensive line delivered an effective run-blocking performance against Seattle's defensive front, creating lanes that allowed Christian McCaffrey to gain 68 yards on 11 carries, averaging more than six yards per rush. Kaelon Black also contributed a 10-plus-yard run.

Several members of the rookie class produced solid early results. Defensive end De’Zhaun Stribling started in two-receiver sets before an ankle injury, while Romello Height recorded two pressures, marking his second consecutive game with multiple pressures. Kaelon Black continued to receive playing time, and Jaden Dugger, filling in for an injured teammate, logged nine tackles, two pressures, a sack and a tackle for loss.

In the secondary, safety Malik Mustapha, returning from an ACL injury, recorded seven tackles and broke up two passes, including a key play on the final drive. Cornerback Renardo Green, who saw limited action last season, posted two interceptions, allowed only two completions on five targets for five yards, and limited his opponent’s passer rating to 8.3.

Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and his staff have been credited with fostering confidence among the younger players, contributing to the overall strong defensive performance despite injuries.
