Bills win overtime after Rousseau blocks Rams field goal
Greg Rousseau's overtime field-goal block set up Tyler Bass's 45-yard kick, giving Buffalo a 37-34 victory over Los Angeles and improving the Bills to 4-1.
Buffalo held off the Los Angeles Rams in overtime on Monday, winning 37-34 after a crucial field-goal block by defensive end Greg Rousseau. Rousseau deflected Harrison Mevis's 48-yard attempt, his second miss of the night, following a James Cook fumble that gave the Rams a chance to win. Five plays later, Tyler Bass converted a 45-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining in overtime to secure the win and move the Bills to a 4-1 record.
Coach Joe Brady said he was watching the scoreboard as the special-teams unit lined up, ready to adjust if the play succeeded. After the block, quarterback Josh Allen continued the drive, with Cook carrying once and Allen running twice for 32 yards, positioning the Bills for the decisive kick. Brady praised Rousseau, noting the block reflected the player's season-long performance.
The Rams dominated possession, running 78 plays for 454 yards and 33 first downs, and did not force a turnover. Matthew Stafford completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Davante Adams, while the Rams scored 20 points in the fourth quarter. Defensive tackle Deone Walker and edge rusher Michael Hoecht helped create the block; Hoecht explained his role in clearing the tight end and engaging the Rams' edge blocker, allowing Rousseau to reach the ball.
The victory also marked a milestone for Allen, who entered the game 0-7 in overtime contests. The successful drive gave him his first overtime win after previous playoff defeats in Kansas City (January 2022) and Denver (January 2024).
