Josh Allen, the 2024 NFL MVP, completed 12 of 19 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and added 121 rushing yards with a touchdown on ten carries. Matthew Stafford, the reigning MVP, threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns, completing 40 of 54 attempts.
After the Bills led 19-14 entering the fourth quarter, the teams exchanged touchdowns on five consecutive drives, culminating in a 71-yard Rams drive that tied the game at 27 with just over seven minutes left. Buffalo answered with an 11-play, 71-yard drive that included a 21-yard run by Allen, putting them ahead with 99 seconds remaining. Stafford then led a rapid 63-yard response, tying the game with five seconds left.
In overtime, the Rams won the coin toss and chose to defend. On the third play, Allen connected with Khalil Shakir on a 57-yard pass that was stopped short by a tackle from Kam Kinchens. The next play saw Rams running back James Cook fumble, giving Buffalo possession. After a series of runs, Bills kicker Tyler Bass converted a 45-yard field goal to secure the win.
"I wish I would have had a better play call and gone for it and got it a lot tighter," Rams coach Sean McVay said postgame, expressing regret over the third-down decision.
"It’s football. You can be down and out one play and another play on top of the world," Allen remarked about the overtime sequence.
The victory moved the Bills to 4-1, keeping them atop the AFC East, while the Rams dropped to 2-3, remaining third in the NFC West.
