Bills win overtime against Rams on Bass field goal
Buffalo defeated Los Angeles 37-34 in overtime after a blocked field-goal attempt and a 45-yard kick by Tyler Bass, improving to 4-1 while the Rams fall to 2-3.
Buffalo secured a 37-34 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, moving to 4-1 on the season. After a 57-yard run by Khalil Shakir put the Bills in the red-zone, a fumble by James Cook was recovered by Rams linebacker Nate Landman and returned by Aaron Donald. The play was nullified when defensive end Greg Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis' 48-yard field-goal attempt, giving Buffalo a chance to win. Quarterback Josh Allen then guided the offense into range, and kicker Tyler Bass converted a 45-yard field goal.
Allen completed 12 of 19 passes for 210 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Running back James Cook contributed 111 rushing yards and two scores despite the two fumbles. Los Angeles quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns, completing 40 of 54 attempts. Wide receiver Puka Nacua set a Monday Night Football record with 17 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown.
"I wish I would have had a better play call and gone for it and got it a lot tighter," Rams head coach Sean McVay said after the game, expressing disappointment with the overtime strategy.
The Rams' special-teams unit struggled, allowing a 70-yard kickoff return by Ray Davis and missing three field-goal attempts, including the blocked 48-yard try. The loss drops Los Angeles to 2-3, and the team will host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6. Buffalo will travel to Las Vegas for a Week 6 matchup against the Raiders.
