Apple to unveil HomeView smart display and updated TV and speaker at October 13 event
Apple confirmed a product launch on October 13, previewing a new HomeView smart display, an upgraded Apple TV 4K, and a second-generation HomePod mini.
Apple announced that it will hold a product launch event on October 13 under the "Welcome home" theme, focusing on new smart-home hardware. The event will include an in-person press session in New York City and an online video presentation, with a likely start time around 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT.
The headline product is expected to be a smart display dubbed HomeView, which Bloomberg reports will feature a 6-inch square screen on a half-dome base and be offered in wall-mount and countertop versions. The device is said to use Siri AI and Apple Intelligence to recognize multiple household members and adjust its interface accordingly, blending elements of the Apple Watch, Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone.
Apple is also anticipated to introduce a new Apple TV 4K, the first refresh since November 2022, equipped with an A19 or A19 Pro chip that would enable Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features. The updated set-top box may include built-in microphones for voice control, and the Siri Remote could add a speaker for easier locating.
The HomePod mini is reported to receive its first major upgrade, featuring an S10 chip that supports Siri AI and arriving in several new colors, including pink, white, green, blue, and black.
In addition, Apple is said to be collaborating with LG on a range of "second-party" HomeKit accessories such as a smart lock, thermostat, doorbell, and cameras, though Bloomberg notes these products are unlikely to be released for several months.
The announcements are expected to outline Apple’s broader strategy for the smart-home market, a segment the company has not emphasized heavily in recent years.
