DP World Tour bars LIV Golf players from joining in 2027

Summary

The DP World Tour announced that players who compete on LIV Golf will be ineligible for membership beginning in 2027, citing tour rules and upcoming membership deadlines.

The DP World Tour said that any golfer who participates in LIV Golf will not be permitted to hold membership on the tour from 2027 onward. The policy change was disclosed shortly before the annual deadline for players to declare their intention to join the tour.

"Players will have to make a choice. We have rules and regulations which are there to protect our tour and which our members must all abide by," DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings told BBC Sport. "Players who are not willing to comply with our rules and regulations should not be seeking to join our tour."

The decision arrives five weeks before the October 25 deadline for LIV Golf players to apply for DP World Tour membership. Last season, nine LIV Golf participants, including Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, received conditional releases to compete on the DP World Tour.

Separately, BC Partners Credit announced a financing commitment of up to $300 million for LIV Golf following the league’s Chapter 11 filing. LIV Golf chief executive Scott O’Neill described the investment as an "important step forward" toward a player-owned, global league.

Rahm, represented by his lawyer, has already declined to join the DP World Tour, calling the proposed terms "unacceptable." Other LIV Golf members such as Sergio Garcia and David Puig have also been released from the league.

Eligibility for the 2027 Ryder Cup will be limited to players on the DP World Tour. Rahm and Hatton were the only European LIV Golf players to compete in the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
