Nathan Fielder's Documentary on Elizabeth Holmes Receives Perfect Scores

Summary

The documentary "You Can See Everything" about Elizabeth Holmes has earned a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 97 on Metacritic as it prepares for U.S. and U.K. releases.

Nathan Fielder's documentary "You Can See Everything," co-directed with Lance Oppenheim, follows convicted Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes during the months before she began serving an 11-year prison sentence. Filmed in secret over three years, the film captures Holmes inviting the crew into her home shortly before her transfer to a Texas facility in May 2023.

The movie is slated for U.S. theatrical release on 16 October and a U.K. release on 20 November. Early reviews have given it a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 97, described as "universal acclaim."

The Daily Beast called it "not just the film of the year – it’s a documentary that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the form’s all-time greats," while The Guardian described it as a "modern masterpiece of deceit." Variety noted that the film is "far from a ‘pure’ documentary," labeling it a "one-of-a-kind reality-TV-as-hangout-movie psychodrama circus." Screen Daily highlighted the film's exploration of how reality is constructed in art, noting that all participants, including the filmmakers and Holmes, shape the truth for their own purposes.

In a trailer released in September, Holmes is shown saying, "I don’t have anything to deceive you on. Of course I’m not deceiving you. I’m engaging with you as a human being. Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that." The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, where attendees were asked to lock their phones away during the screening.
