Collin Gosselin alleges childhood abuse by mother ahead of memoir release

Summary

Collin Gosselin, former star of "Jon & Kate Plus 8," detailed accusations of physical and emotional abuse by his mother Kate Gosselin in an interview preceding the October 13 release of his memoir.

Collin Gosselin, who grew up on the reality series "Jon & Kate Plus 8," told ABC News that he experienced physical and emotional abuse by his mother, Kate Gosselin, after his parents' 2009 divorce. He said he was confined to a locked basement room, dragged by his earlobe, and zip-tied when he attempted to run away. A teacher reportedly noticed a swollen earlobe and alerted school officials, prompting Gosselin to speak with a guidance counselor.

"My teacher saw ... and then I talked to my guidance counselor, and I told them about it," Gosselin said.

He added that his mother removed him from school in fourth grade and placed him in an institution shortly before his 12th birthday, where he received medication and had limited family contact. Gosselin claimed he wrote a note to his father requesting rescue, which was delivered by a friend.

In 2016, Kate Gosselin told ABC News that her decision to send Collin for treatment was "the best thing I can do for him right now" and dismissed earlier abuse reports as "unfounded." The former reality-TV star did not respond to a request for comment on the new allegations.

According to Gosselin's memoir, an independent psychological evaluation conducted in 2023 found no mental-health diagnoses, a result he said confirmed his own expectations. He is currently attending college and studying finance. When asked about reconnecting with his six siblings, he expressed a desire to do so, acknowledging that relationships may have changed.

"No matter what's happened or what was said, no matter how things look from the outside, I love you, I always have and always will," he wrote to his siblings.

Jon Gosselin declined to comment on the story. ABC News also did not receive a response from TLC.
