49ers rally past Seahawks for fourth straight win

Summary

San Francisco defeated Seattle 32-29 on the road, improving to 5-0 and extending the Seahawks' home winning streak to 371 days.

San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy led the 49ers to a 32-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, giving the Seahawks their first home loss in 371 days and moving the 49ers to a 5-0 start under head coach Kyle Shanahan. The game featured seven turnovers and several personal fouls, with linebacker Dre Greenlaw ejected in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 26-21 late in the fourth, Purdy orchestrated a 12-play, 74-yard drive that ended with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Mike Evans. He then connected with Evans again on a two-point conversion to put San Francisco ahead 29-26. After Seattle kicked a field goal, the 49ers answered with a 44-yard field goal that proved decisive.

"I thought Brock did an unbelievable job finding a way there to win at the end," Shanahan said. "There were some ups and downs. By no means was everything perfect. He was really good in the fourth quarter."

Seattle failed to convert a fourth-and-10 on its final possession. Neither quarterback was outstanding, but Purdy capitalized on early turnovers and managed the two scoring drives in the final quarter despite a depleted receiving corps, with four receivers on injured reserve and injuries to Deebo Samuel and Jacob Cowing during the game.

"We got a bunch of warriors," Shanahan said of the backups who stepped up. "Everyone knows the talent and the stars of some of the guys on our team. What makes our guys special is how much they love football, how much they give it up every week."

Mike Evans recorded a season-high seven receptions for 113 yards, a touchdown and the successful two-point conversion. Purdy finished 19 of 29 for 189 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, bringing his season totals to 13 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The win gave San Francisco the league's best point differential and marked its third 5-0 start in franchise history, with three victories against teams that had winning records, including divisional rivals Seattle and the Los Angeles Rams.
