Dodgers Edge Brewers 2-1 in NLCS Game 1 as Skubal Dominates Early
Los Angeles took a 2-1 lead in the opening game of the National League Championship Series, with Milwaukee's starter Tarik Skubal striking out six through three innings and the Dodgers' bullpen holding on.
Los Angeles Dodgers secured a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series at American Family Field. The Dodgers took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Andy Pages in the second inning, and extended the margin in the sixth when William Contreras flew out with the bases loaded, leaving the Brewers with a 2-1 deficit.
Milwaukee starter Tarik Skubal was dominant through the first three innings, allowing just one run on 15 pitches and striking out six batters, including a three-pitch K of Jackson Chourio. The Brewers tied the game in the fourth when rookie Luis Lara delivered a go-ahead single, and Brice Turang homered later in the inning to level the score.
The Brewers bullpen, led by Jacob Misiorowski, struggled to contain the Dodgers. Misiorowski issued three walks and allowed a bases-loaded situation before being pulled for reliever Abner Uribe, who faced dangerous hitters such as Will Smith and Shohei Ohtani.
"I think the success they've had over the last handful of years, the depth of their roster, really stands out," Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said of Brewers GM Matt Arnold before the game.
Milwaukee’s defense produced several double plays, but the Dodgers capitalized on key opportunities. The game remained close through five innings, but the Dodgers’ bullpen held the lead, setting the tone for the series.
