President Trump announces alleged energy cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine
President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an immediate energy cease-fire, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv awaits details from Washington.
President Donald Trump posted on his social-media platform that an "energy cease-fire" between Russia and Ukraine is now in effect, stating that both sides have agreed not to target energy infrastructure. No specific terms or confirmation from either government were provided.
The White House directed a news outlet to the social-media post when asked for further information. The claim comes amid rising global energy prices and concerns about fuel shortages ahead of winter.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded that Ukraine supports any cease-fire and urged Russia to do the same, adding that Kyiv is waiting for details from the United States. He said Ukraine would halt attacks on Russian oil refineries only if Russia stopped striking Ukraine’s electric grid.
Earlier in the week, President Trump criticized President Zelenskyy, suggesting a leadership change and linking high diesel costs to the Ukrainian leader. He also claimed to have reached a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply Russian diesel to the market.
Cease-fires between the two countries have been difficult to sustain since the conflict began in 2022, and President Trump’s latest statement has not been independently verified.
