Grand Theft Auto 6 receives M, R18+ and PEGI 18 ratings ahead of November launch

Summary

Rockstar's upcoming title Grand Theft Auto 6 has been assigned mature ratings by the ESRB, Australian and New Zealand boards, and PEGI, confirming the presence of strong violence, sexual content and drug use.

Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been assigned official age ratings as the November 19 release approaches. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) gave the title an M for Mature rating, citing blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and depictions of drug and alcohol use.

In Australia and New Zealand, the game received an R18+ rating, which includes references to sex scenes. European regulators assigned a PEGI 18 rating, noting elements such as decapitation, dismemberment, cocaine use, discriminatory language and in-game purchases.

"The ESRB rating confirms that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol," the rating board stated.

The ratings align with recent marketing material, including a Netflix extended look that showcased about 30 minutes of gameplay and details about the game's radio stations. A $400 collector's edition has also been revealed, though the presence of microtransactions remains unclear.
