Second Houthi strike hits Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport

Resumen

A projectile struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, causing a fire and injuries, marking the second attack on the airport within two days, which the Houthis say they carried out.

A projectile hit King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday, igniting a fire in one of the passenger halls and causing injuries, Saudi military officials said. The incident follows a strike on the same airport the previous day that killed 13 people and injured more than 300.

The Yemeni Houthi movement claimed responsibility for both attacks, stating they used a mix of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones, and warned that all Saudi airports, except those in Mecca and Medina, could be targeted. The group said the operations were in retaliation for Saudi support for forces in Yemen's civil war and a recent air strike on Sanaa airport.

Saudi-led coalition spokesperson Maj Gen Turki al-Maliki said air defenses intercepted a missile near the airport and authorities were dealing with the fire in Passenger Hall No 4. The Saudi civil aviation authority confirmed casualties, including four Saudi nationals and several foreign citizens.

U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States would decide quickly whether to strike the Houthis, while U.K. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting indicated possible additional support for Saudi Arabia. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the attacks and confirmed a U.S. citizen was among the dead. The U.K. Foreign Office advised against travel to parts of Saudi Arabia near the Yemen border, and other Western embassies issued similar warnings.
