President Donald Trump said an energy ceasefire had been reached between Russia and Ukraine, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had not been informed of any such agreement.
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday that an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine was now in effect, urging both sides not to break it. He offered no details about the terms of the ceasefire.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Axios he had not been notified of any deal. He said, > "But if Russians agree to an energy ceasefire Ukraine will agree. If President Trump negotiated it with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin — please tell us when the ceasefire begins — we are ready and we will accept it."
The claim came after Trump previously announced a diesel supply agreement with the Kremlin and called for Kyiv to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries. The United States announced a sanction relief package that would allow Russia to export diesel to global markets, beginning with 300,000 tons immediately, followed by larger shipments later in the year.
Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine would halt strikes on Russian refineries if Russia stopped attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, and he indicated willingness to hold elections if a 60-day ceasefire were agreed. He also noted that global fuel price increases are linked to the broader conflict in the Middle East.
