Kelly Clarkson criticizes Brooklyn retailer for perceived snub on social media
The singer said a Brooklyn store treated her as if she could not afford items, prompting a public rebuke on X and a reference to the film "Pretty Woman."
Kelly Clarkson posted on X on Oct. 10 that a visit to a Brooklyn retail outlet left her feeling judged as a low-spending customer. She wrote that staff told her they could find comparable items elsewhere after she expressed interest in several products, and she accused the employee of losing a sale.
"Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn't afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me. Wow, dude. You're an idiot and just lost a huge sale," Clarkson said.
Clarkson compared the encounter to the scene in the 1990 film "Pretty Woman" where the protagonist is denied access to higher-priced merchandise. She suggested followers avoid the shop if they prefer respectful service.
The singer, who moved to New York City in 2023 and currently serves as a coach on season 30 of "The Voice," has recently stepped back from her daytime talk show to focus on family matters.
