A 45-year-old man shot and killed eight people, including children and a pregnant woman, before taking his own life at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania; authorities have not released his identity or motive.

Police in Erie, Pennsylvania, responded to a house where a 45-year-old man opened fire, killing eight people and then himself, officials said Saturday. Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah reported that seven of the victims were relatives of the shooter and the eighth was a family friend. Among those killed were a 1-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy and a pregnant woman. The shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound before officers arrived.

The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed and the motive remains under investigation. Erie Mayor Daria Devlin expressed condolences to the families, saying the community is grieving and will support them. Governor Josh Shapiro, who has advocated for gun-control measures in the state, said his administration will provide full support to Erie and offered prayers for the victims and the community.

Authorities continue to gather evidence as the investigation proceeds.
