Kelly Clarkson alleges Brooklyn store staff implied she could not afford merchandise
The singer said a Brooklyn boutique treated her as if she lacked the means to purchase items, prompting her to leave and criticize the staff on social media.
Kelly Clarkson posted on X on October 10 that she drove to Brooklyn to shop at Art of Play, a home-goods store specializing in puzzles and games, but felt she was treated as if she could not afford the merchandise. She wrote that a staff member suggested finding a comparable item, which she interpreted as an implication about her financial ability, and she responded that the employee had "lost a huge sale." Clarkson encouraged her followers to visit the store, comparing the experience to a scene from the 1990 film Pretty Woman where a sales clerk assumed a customer could not pay. The Brooklyn boutique has not responded to the allegations, and attempts to obtain comment were unsuccessful. Clarkson, who relocated to New York City in 2023 with her two children, has not provided further details about the incident.
