College football Week 6 roundup: notable games and standout performances

Summary

Week 6 of the college football season featured a spectacular trick play by Tulsa, a strong showing by South Carolina against Florida, and several top-ranked matchups including Georgia vs. Alabama.

Tulsa executed a rare trick play in Week 6 when running back Oran Singleton Jr. received a swing pass, broke a tackle and tossed the ball to David Wells Jr., who tipped it to himself for a touchdown despite double coverage.

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers led the Gamecocks to a 31-13 lead over No. 16 Florida in Gainesville, completing 20 of 30 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding a rushing touchdown. Florida’s Jadan Baugh managed only 57 rushing yards on 14 carries.

In the Big Ten, unranked Nebraska held a 10-3 halftime lead over No. 7 Indiana, outgaining the Hoosiers 216 yards and controlling the ball for 22 minutes. Nebraska quarterback Anthony Colandrea was 14 of 22 for 138 yards, and Nyziah Hunter scored the team’s lone touchdown. Indiana’s offense struggled, recording just 12 rushing yards and punting twice, including a 19-yard punt.

Other games of note included No. 14 Missouri’s narrow 10-3 advantage over Texas A&M, a 21-21 deadlock between No. 18 Oklahoma State and UCF, and a 10-10 halftime tie between South Carolina and Florida.

The marquee matchup featured No. 2 Georgia traveling to face No. 6 Alabama, a game not seen in Tuscaloosa since 2007. Georgia entered with several starters out due to injury, while weather concerns from Hurricane Isaias loomed over the 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.

Additional highlights: No. 10 LSU visited Kentucky, both teams standing at 4-1; No. 21 UCLA hosted No. 13 Oregon with quarterback Dylan Raiola starting; BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier posted 329 passing yards and a career-high 109 rushing yards in a 24-10 win over Iowa State; Iowa’s Kamari Moulton rushed for a career-best 208 yards in a 41-24 victory at Washington; and Florida A&M rallied from a 27-14 deficit to beat Alabama State 28-27 after blocking a last-second field goal.
