Broncos offensive coordinator Davis Webb steps back from play-calling duties as Sean Payton resumes role
Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Davis Webb said head coach Sean Payton has reclaimed play-calling duties after a slow start, and Webb remains involved in game planning while looking forward to the team’s response.
Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Davis Webb said head coach Sean Payton has taken back the play-calling responsibilities that Webb assumed during the offseason. The change follows a 2-2 start in which the Broncos faced opponents that combined for a 13-3 record at the beginning of the season.
Webb told reporters that the decision is ultimately Payton’s and expressed respect for the coach’s approach. He added that, while the shift is “not ideal,” he is “excited to see how our team responds” to the adjustment.
He noted that he will continue to contribute to weekly operations and game-plan discussions, even though he will no longer be the primary play caller. Webb compared the situation to other career changes in the NFL, saying that such moves are part of the league’s business.
